Joy of Empowering
@(titleX)>Creating platforms for women
Inspired by the fiery female spirit and vision of JOALI’s founder and owner, Esin Gural Argat, one of our primary goals is to honor the economic and creative aspirations of women. As passionate supporters of female education and vocational training, our efforts are aimed at opening up avenues of self-sufficiency and new opportunities for social entrepreneurship.
Women in Art
JOALI Art Week is a tribute to feminine creativity, this five-day experience celebrating Women in Art. In 2022 four local women artists joined our Resident Artist at JOALI Maldives to share their creativity with guests through live art sessions, interactive workshops and immersive exhibits. Several original artworks were also made available for purchase.
At JOALI BEING, our exclusive Art House nurtures local artisans as well as art-lovers through imaginative events and workshops. Our resident artist is a female local artist. For special event and activities, we invite local female artists to visit and conduct workshops, live art sessions and showcase their work.
JOALI Art Dinners
Monthly art dinners at JOALI combine the joys of gastronomy, art, and sustainability. Hosted at the artistic hub, these inspiring experiences are led by women artists from around the world and feature all-natural paints made with herbs and flowers from our very own Chef’s Garden.
Leadership and Gender
Diversity Program
We are committed to gender equality and the development of talented women at all levels of the organisation. JOALI’s Leadership and Gender Diversity Program is aligned with our commitment to the UN Women’s gender equality campaign.
Supporting Local Institutions
In 2021, we donated USD 15,000 to three local Women’s Development Committees for vital projects: renovating the waste disposal area in Raa Innamaadhoo, developing a community space in Raa Maakurathu, and building a shaded waiting area outside the school in Raa Rasmaadhoo. In June 2022, we donated USD 30,000 and two eight-seater buggies to Raa Dhuvaafaru Council. Our goal was to support the community of Raa Dhuvaafaru, the most populous island in Raa Atoll.
Fehi Fathi
In 2022 we donated funds to Zero Waste Maldives to support fabric waste recycling in Ungoofaaru island and to empower local seamstresses and provide them with an entrepreneurial opportunity.
The organization is working with Ungoofaaru Women’s Development Committee in project #FehiFathi to reduce the amount of fabric waste that ends up in landfill by rescuing clothes that can be used second hand or upcycled. Over 15 local seamstresses are involved in the project.
Code for Climate
In 2022, we donated funds to Women in Tech Maldives to conduct #CodeforClimateMV, learn to code program in the Raa Atoll School (Raa Dhuvaafaru). The program is designed to spread climate awareness through code and introduced the participants to Python and Machine Learning. 18 girls successfully completed the program.
