Since January 2026, five sea turtle nests have been recorded on JOALI Maldives’ shores, four of which are believed to have been laid by the same Olive Ridley turtle - a species rarely observed nesting in the Maldives. This remarkable occurrence makes Muravandhoo Island an invaluable case study for our conservation partners at the Olive Ridley Project.
At JOALI Maldives, marine conservation is a collective effort. Alongside our team of marine biologists, who hold specialised government permits to monitor and manage turtle nests, our landscaping team is also trained to identify potential nesting sites and report them promptly. Through continuous awareness programmes and close collaboration across departments, we have established an effective system to safeguard these precious nests.
Early identification is essential to successful conservation. By locating nests as soon as possible, our team can closely monitor their development, assess their condition, and prepare for hatching events. When the hatchlings emerge, we guide them safely on their first journey to the ocean, giving them the best possible start in life and increasing their chances of surviving and thriving in the wild.
