At JOALI Maldives, the Joy of Creative Living extends beyond art and design. It is about creating meaningful connections, encouraging curiosity and finding new ways to inspire the generations of tomorrow.
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Grade 10 students from R. Alifushi School to the island for an immersive introduction to the world of hospitality. Through an interactive tour of both front-of-house and back-of-house areas, the students gained insight into the many people, skills and operations that come together to create the JOALI Maldives guest experience.
The visit also offered the students an opportunity to become part of an ongoing creative story at JOALI Maldives.
During her artist residency on the island, French designer and artist Aurélie Hoegy initiated a whale shark artwork created through weaving and reclaimed materials. Continuing the evolution of the piece, the students joined our in-house team to contribute their own hands to the artwork.
Using reclaimed materials including ghost nets collected during clean-ups of nearby uninhabited islands, alongside repurposed fabrics from donated clothing, the students discovered how materials can be given a new purpose through creativity.
The experience brought together two philosophies at the heart of JOALI Maldives: our Joy of Creative Living, which celebrates art as a source of discovery and connection, and our Joy of Caring, which encourages a deeper awareness of the natural world and our responsibility to protect it.
Through our partnerships with artists and our continued connection with local communities, we hope to create opportunities for younger generations to experience creativity in new ways, encouraging them to ask questions, participate, learn and express their own ideas.
Seeing the students engage so enthusiastically with both the world of hospitality and the creative process was a meaningful reminder of the role that shared experiences can play in inspiring the future.
At JOALI Maldives, art is not simply something to observe. It is something to experience, contribute to and carry forward.
